Every night, millions of children put their heads down on a pillow they think is empty. Bob is about to find out otherwise.

When a tiny squeak comes from inside his pillow, Ink — a small, unimpressed blob of ink from Bob's storybook — shrinks him down to microscopic size. What looks like a plain white cushion turns out to be a world: towering canyons of cotton fibre, snow made of skin flakes, and a glowing town inhabited by friendly microbes in every colour.

Bob meets Dustin, a dust mite doing his weekly shop, and learns what dust mites really are. He wanders a forest of glowing fungi, referees a boxing match between a pillow and a toilet seat, and follows Ink through a series of doors — into the soil, into the sea, and finally into his own tummy.

Real microbiology, told as a bedtime adventure.
